A haunting piece of numismatic art, capturing the essence of one of the great works of Gothic horror literature, we are delighted to present The Raven 2025 $5 2oz Silver Black Proof!

Poet, author and critic, and a key figure in American Romanticism and Gothic Horror, Edgar Allan Poe (1809-49) is one of the most famous figures of American literature. In his short life, Poe made crucial contributions in an array of literary fields, including science fiction, detective stories, and, of course, tales of mystery and the macabre.

One of his most famous works, The Raven was first published in January 1845. A narrative poem, telling a tale of death, loss, grief and eternal devotion, The Raven details the laments of a young scholar, who, reeling from the death of his lover, is visited by a talking raven. A deeply melancholic, evocative work, perhaps most famous for the iconic refrain of the raven – “Nevermore” – the work propelled Poe to stardom. It is considered by many to be one of the world’s most famous poems.

Official Niue legal tender, the Raven 2025 $5 2oz Silver Black Proof celebrates the 180th anniversary of the first publication of this American classic. Struck from 99.9% pure silver, the broad 55mm flan plays host to a detailed depiction of the raven and the statue of Pallas Athena upon which the raven sits in Poe’s poem – “above my chamber door.” Bringing a dark, foreboding edge to an unforgettable commemorative issue, the use of a deep, rich Black Proof finish is an inspired touch.
