A powerful pathway to the past, providing a rich insight into Australia’s colonial history and the road to nationhood, we are proud to offer this sensational collection of genuine 19th century pre-Federation stamps! Before Australia united as a nation at Federation in 1901, responsibility for postal services lay in the hands of the individual colonies. Ex-convict Isaac Nichols was appointed postmaster in Sydney in 1809, with postmasters appointed in Tasmania (1812), Western Australia (1829), Victoria (1836), South Australia (1837) and Queensland (1842).

Each each of the six colonies had its own post office and each issued its own stamps - leading to a varied, colourful and highly collectable pre-Federation stamp series!
Representing all six colonies, as they progressed towards nationhood, this gigantic collection includes 215 stamps, issued from the 1850s Gold Rush era to the turn of the century. Tough to assemble, and highlighted by many scarce varieties and values of up to £1, the 215-stamp collection is presented within museum quality display sheets with a free binder!
