Issued by the Royal Australian Mint just three years after decimalisation, the 1969 Mint Set comprises six coins, including the 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c and 50c. Each coin is distinguished by the classic design for its denomination, with each motif created by numismatic master craftsman Stuart Devlin.
Highly desirable as the second issue in the long-running Mint Set Series, with no Mint Sets issued in 1967 or 1968, the 1969 Mint Set is also highly sought after for one very specific reason. Circulating examples of 1969-dated coins are very scarce in Uncirculated quality. The scarcity of those coins in top grade is largely attributable to the generally low mintages. The 1969 2c, for example, is Australia’s lowest mintage circulating 2c! In addition, the 1969 10c & 20c are among the lowest mintage issues of their denominations, whilst the 1969 50c was the first in dodecagonal format!
