Only 62,500 examples of the 1968 $20 Phillips/Randall Star Note were ever issued. Thus, it is no great shock to discover that this important Australian banknote is rare, irrespective of the condition. That rarity is heightened by the fact that Star Notes were created for circulation, inasmuch as each note was specifically issued to replace a note spoiled in production. Thus, a vast majority of Star Notes were heavily circulated, and ultimately withdrawn from circulation and destroyed in the furnaces of Treasury.
