Highlighted by fantastic new freestanding presentation, perfect for the display of your new coin, the 1966 Silver 50c 50th Anniversary Pack forms a fine memento of the greatest landmark in the history of Australian currency - the changeover from the predecimal to the decimal system.
Struck from 80% silver, the first 50c was intended by the Commonwealth Government to be 'the glamour coin' of the decimal changeover. Rising metal prices sealed its fate, however, with the intrinsic value outstripping the face value. Hoarded away or melted down, the coin simply vanished from circulation. As the next 50c was neither silver nor round, the 1966 50c was rendered a unique type.
