Description:

Struck from real gold, this unique medallion forms a stirring tribute to the centenary of the Battle of Lone Pine - an engagement between Australian and Turkish troops at Gallipoli from the 6th to the 10th of August 1915.

Named after the sole pine tree standing on the battlefield at the start of the engagement, the Battle of Lone Pine saw a force of 3,000 Australians take on approximately 1,000 Turkish defenders. Following an artillery barrage, the Australians took the main Turkish trench line within hours, and then heroically defended their position against fierce Turkish counterattacks. Ultimately, the Ottoman commanders abandoned their quest to recover the lost ground.

The fighting was some of the fiercest seen up to that point of the campaign, and the ferocious hand-to-hand combat in the trenches contributed to appalling casualties on both sides. The Australians suffered over 2,000 casualties, with the Turkish forces suffering between 5,000 and 7,000 casualties. Notably, seven Australians were awarded the Victoria Cross for actions during the Battle of Lone Pine.

Capturing the courage of the Aussie diggers as they attempt to get beyond the pine logs atop the Turkish trenches to take on their foes, the 2015 Battle of Lone Pine Gold Medallion is restricted to a mintage of just 2,500.

  • Struck from two grams of precious, prestigious 14-carat gold
  • Underpinned by a flawless Proof standard strike
  • Exclusive! Worldwide mintage restricted to a mere 2,500
  • Superbly designed - measures 18mm in diameter
  • Set in a plush case with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity
