The Games were rescheduled for St Moritz in Switzerland which had hosted in 1928 but due to controversies between the Swiss organising team and the IOC, the Games were once again withdrawn. The IOC then decided to hold the Games at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany at the site of the 1936 Winter Games but, following the German invasion of Poland and the outbreak of WWII, the summer and winter Olympiads were cancelled altogether |
